“I signed up for dodgeball, now what?”
We get that signing up for dodgeball can be a bit of a daunting experience, this post should give you some of the details and let you know what to expect when you sign-up to play with the Yacht Club. How Long is this thing Anyway? When do you think I’ll hear from my Captain? Sometime between getting on a team and the 1st game you’ll be invited to log off Facebook, put on some pants and meet your fellow Yacht Club members at the season kick-off party– You’ll meet your captain/teammates and are encouraged to start trash talking the competition. Or maybe you’ll decide a tickle fight is the best way to antagonize them, you decide. Sooo.. How often do we play? What about standings? Does anyone Keep Score? Our games are played “for fun” so we don’t keep score of wins during the regular season. When the playoffs start we have two – three weeks of seeding and playoffs, but that’s about it. The league Champions from each league will be invited to an ultimate test of their dodging prowess by playing in our East vs. West vs. North tournament, where one team will not only get bragging rights but receive the coveted national trophy. What should I wear? Anything else I should know? So, that’s it?
A season lasts 9-10 weeks and will probably include a gift of some sort (t-shirt, tote bag, maybe even a slap to the face if that’s what you’re into)
Hold your horses, about a week before the season starts you will be assigned a captain for your randomly selected team (if you’re shy and need to hold someone’s hand, we’d be happy to put you and a friend on the same team.) But don’t think you can stack a team.
Your team will play once a week. The 8th or 9th week will start playoffs. The 9th or 10th tear inducing final week is our League Finals.
The minimum required by law, or whatever you feel comfortable wearing while on the elliptical machine. You should expect to get sweaty.
Don’t think you’re going to bed after your evening of playing with balls is over, you’re encouraged to get your behind to the bar and share a few drinks with friends and definitely buy a beer for that person you thumped in the face with a ball earlier in the night. Socializing and getting to know each other is a huge part of being in the Yacht Club.
Yep, that’s how this show will go down. So stock up on Bengay and shuffle your finances for a new weekly bar tab. Be sure to let us know if you have any questions or just wanna tell us how cute we look in this dress.
